Electron microscopy center

Department 5

Structural and chemical analysis using electron microscopy is central and indispensable in modern materials science and materials chemistry. Unifying the available electron microscopy resources at BAM across departments, the electron microscopy center offers transmission and scanning electron microscopy methods for our staff, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate student body. With instrumentation ranging from analytical and high-resolution SEM, analytical (S)TEM, environmental SEM to different microanalysis techniques, most microstructures, chemistries, and defects can be characterized with our resources. Our instruments can be leveraged with most structural materials, biomaterials, nanomaterials, or batteries.

  • The goals of interdisciplinary Electron Microscopy facilities are:
  • guidance in where to find the best instrument or method for your scientific problem
  • expert support across all methods and materials
  • training of young scientists and thereby supporting our educational mission
  • resource efficiency

BAM employees have access to a list of our currently available microscopes, free educational documents and can request instrument time or training. All EM-related resources are freely available to all BAM employees in the BAM intranet.

BAM is a senior scientific and technical Federal institute with responsibility
to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
